Marriage Proposal in Bakirkoy: Where and How to Plan It
The most reliable way to plan a marriage proposal is to choose the place and the time first, then have a backup plan for every step. In Bakırköy that choice usually comes down to two: a moment outdoors on the seafront, or an evening together in a one-bedroom apartment (1+1) with suite comfort.
The suggestions in this article are general tips for people doing the preparation themselves. We recommend asking about your special requests and the items you plan to bring when you reserve; we work out together in that conversation what is possible.
First the place: seafront or apartment?
| Option | Upside | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Bakırköy seafront | Outdoors, by the sea, easy to reach on foot | Weather, crowds, wind |
| Apartment | Privacy, a separate living room, you are in control | Preparation time, check-in time |
| Both together | The question on the seafront, the celebration in the apartment | The timing needs to be well arranged |
The Bakırköy seafront is about 14 minutes on foot from our apartment in Zeytinlik and is a long stretch of coast with a walking and cycling path. If you want a quieter moment, choose a weekday or the hours when the crowds thin out. We describe the seafront option in more detail in a sunset walk.
Work the timing backwards
Decide the moment of the proposal, then count back from there:
- Proposal time: for example before dinner, on the seafront, or back at the apartment after the meal.
- Apartment preparation: if you are preparing in the apartment, you need to be there before your partner. Check-in is from 14:00; if you want to get in earlier, ask in advance — early check-in is arranged according to availability.
- The excuse: find a natural reason to bring your partner to the seafront or to the apartment: dinner, a walk, a short weekend break.
- Backup plan: if it rains or something runs late, have a plan B that lets you move the proposal to the apartment or to the next morning.
If you are proposing on the seafront
- Walk the seafront once before the day and pick the spot where you will stop; on the day you can put all your attention on the moment.
- Choose a point away from the cycling path, where the crowd is relatively thin.
- In windy weather your voice may not carry; keep what you say short and stand close to your partner.
- Carry the ring box in a pocket you can reach easily but that does not show.
General tips for preparing in the apartment
If you are proposing in the apartment, the separate living room of the one-bedroom apartment (1+1) is a big help: you can set everything up in the living room while the bedroom stays tidy, and afterwards you have a comfortable place to sit and talk. A simple and safe setup often works better than an elaborate one.
- Light: use battery-powered LED candles rather than real ones.
- Music: a short playlist on your phone is enough; keep the volume respectful of your neighbours.
- Decoration: choose things that are quick to gather, such as photos, note cards or a few balloons.
- Flowers and dessert: buy them close to the celebration; the apartment's own kitchen makes it easy to prepare and serve dessert.
- Carrying things: the building has a lift, so flowers, balloons and gifts are easy to get upstairs, and the security cameras add peace of mind.

Small but critical details
- ID: in Turkey, the identity details of every guest staying at accommodation are registered by law. Both of you need a passport at check-in (Turkish citizens can also use their national ID card). Make sure your partner brings theirs without spoiling the surprise.
- The ring: keep it on you until the last moment; if you leave it in the apartment, put it somewhere out of sight.
- Photos: if you want to record the moment, fix your phone in place beforehand or arrange to meet a trusted friend on the seafront. On the seafront, be careful not to get other people in the frame.
- Words: have two or three main sentences in mind; the rest comes on the spot.
- Weather: if your plan is the seafront, check the forecast that morning and keep plan B ready.
After the proposal
If you want to carry on the evening out, Bakırköy Freedom Square (Özgürlük Meydanı) is about 6 minutes on foot, with restaurants around the square and İstanbul Caddesi. Booking a table in advance on weekend evenings makes things easier. If you want to take the next morning slowly, ask about a late check-out in advance too; check-out is at 11:00 and late check-out is arranged according to availability.
